Vortices occur all around us in nature. They exist in tornados. Can you think of some other places we may see vortices? Vortices are based on important physics concepts and not only occur in nature but have important applications for scientists and the development of certain technology.
Students mimick action of a vortex to strengthen understanding.Using concepts of Total Physical Response for young learners.

Learn new vocabulary and the concept of the vortex through a teacher led presentation.
Observe a short educational film regarding the physics of tornados and see what they look like in nature.
Observe the teacher creating a vortex with the water bottle vortex.
Discussion
A) Why do you think that vortices occur in nature? Ie. Why does a tornado occur? Have you seen one before and where?
B) Do they spin? Do they use solid or liquid? Can they be dangerous?
